5 Ways Obesity & Low T Are Related

In our previous videos and blog posts, we often discuss how losing weight is a key factor when it comes to treating low testosterone.

Here are five specific points to consider when it comes to the relationship between obesity and low t.

#1. Obesity Lowers Total Testosterone

If you are overweight or obese, you will almost certainly find that your total testosterone level is lower than that of a guy with normal weight, but unless you are very obese, your free testosterone levels may be the same.

#2. Free Testosterone Decreases As The Amount Of Fat Increases

Did you notice that when you gain weight, it is even harder to feel like yourself? That is because, as you gain weight, it prevents your brain from sending the signals you need to produce testosterone.

#3. The Obesity-Low T Relationship Works Both Ways

This is not a one-way story.  Obesity causes low testosterone, but low testosterone also causes weight gain.  Testosterone inhibits the development and growth of fat cells.  Without this inhibition, you may experience even faster weight gain.

#4. Low T Contributes To Fat Accumulation

Low testosterone also contributes to your fat accumulation.  It lowers your metabolic rate making more energy available to be stored as fat.  At the same time, it makes it harder for you to lose weight because you may feel fatigued and depressed and find it harder to exercise.

#5. Obesity & Low T Make For A Vicious Cycle.

Obesity and low testosterone cause each other and contribute to each getting worse.  Losing weight will definitely help raise your testosterone levels and treating the low testosterone levels will help you lose weight and keep it off. That’s why Helios Telemedicine targets both at the same time.
